It’s the best kind of fear though

I'm a young professional in my late 20s who's done the quarter-life-crisis thing, and arguably still am. This book has forced me to revisit some thoughts and fears that I’ve worked steadily over the past couple years to overcome. It’s the best kind of fear though. The kind of fear you have before you face the things that end up meaning the most. Like the author, I’ve moved, changed jobs, taken a break from the 'real world,' read the self-help books, listened to the podcasts and talked to countless people I respect and trust about what to do next, all to realize in a rock bottom moment that it has nothing to do with WHAT you’re doing and everything to do with what you are feeling. With another recent move and a new job, I’m still figuring it all out, and these 12 questions are helping in a big way. I can't thank John enough for having the courage to put his thoughts and feelings into words for the rest of us to learn from.

I don't think I can possibly add more than these other reviews haven't already touched on...but I'll try :)

John's book is engaging, humorous and filled with awesome stories—not only his own, but others', too. I would especially recommend it for someone who is "stuck", unsure on next steps to take.

The book is awakening, and without a doubt will bring about positive life changes—with a little work on your end, of course.

I love this book. I have used many of the ideas in the book for a classical music appreciation class that I teach at four senior venues each month. I highly recommend this book to anyone that would like to expand their knowledge and love of music.

This eBook is a good exposition to music literature that may help those new to "classical" music. It defines many forms (such as Rondo) and styles (such as Mazurkas, Waltzes, and other dances) of music that have been developed throughout the periods of music history. It may require some prior knowledge of music theory for easy reading, but explains theory well enough to be understood without prior knowledge. At the same time, it strikes me as more of an aesthetic exploration of music rather than a textbook on history and theory.

The version I downloaded seems to not allow for actual listening to the music referenced in the book. Since the book refers to specific compositions often, this may be a hindrance to some.

This book is as beautiful as its subject and as interesting as its author. Reading the text is like hearing the artist speak lovingly about her subject. The artwork is stunning, even in the small format. If you enjoy this book, be sure to see the actual drawings. I hope Linda Williams Palmer's work will inspire other artists to document their state's trees.

Sean D'Souza has always flown under the radar

It seems like everybody's got the "one true answer" for growing your business. And its so frustrating when you try and implement someone's advice. Either it doesn't apply, or it's too vague, or it's too specific!

That's why I was blown away by The Brain Audit. From the first page it grabs you with its simple and intuitive approach to understanding your potential client's thought process as they look through your sales materials, or walk through your website, or pick up your business card or postcard or maybe watch your commercial.

You put this book down and you think, my god, is that all there is to it? And you start to look at your website and you think, "whoa, there's way more to this than meets the eye". And all of a sudden you realize your web designer doesn't know how to attract customers. And your video producer hasn't got a clue about what makes customers give you trust. And a calm settles over you as you realize you can do this and you can help your designer and producer give you what you need in a very simple and elegant way.

Anyway, that's what happened to me. I quickly developed a way of monitoring all my communications so that they're just what my potential clients need to know to make the right decision. I don't worry about websites anymore. Or commercials. Or postcards.

The other thing I like about the book is that there's nothing sneaky in it. It's all completely above-board. The only thing that takes you off-guard is D'Souza's style. He writes with such a light, breezy touch, with such great good humor, the words barely stay on the page.

Bottom line for me is that The Brain Audit works. It works pretty darn well. But this also makes me a little sad. Sean D'Souza has always flown under the radar. I fear I may lose him as a secret weapon now. So I would say pick up this book and get your secret weapon while you still can.

Your current approach to marketing communication will be wrong until you read this book!

At first I was skeptical about this book because there are so many marketing books around. After reading the book, however, it really blew my mind and I think very differently about marketing and running a business in general. I, like all the people who read this book, will be implementing the best I can.

The best part of this book is how it logically bucks conventional wisdom and opens up a new path in a very real way. Three things that stand out are:

1. How intense focus can actually broaden your market
2. That objections are good things
3. Why it's hard to be unique, but can be much easier

I recommend this book to any company that is trying to genuinely break through the clutter. It sets your thinking straight on how businesses work.

I'll be putting this book on my reading list for my students.

A good read after a long time

I'm always up for reading books with the expectation that I can at least take 1% out of it. This book did surpass my expectation and gets you completely hooked on from start to finish. The nuances which you can develop your product keeping in mind the customer is amazing. There is a lot to learn and lot to ponder upon. Would have to read it at least one more time to master minding it!!!

Don't Miss This One!

From the moment I opened the book, I was drawn into the characters and their mission. I couldn't put it down! The expertly developed plot carefully led me down a path and into a world that I had previously known very little about. This gripping piece of fiction carries with it a big dose of reality, and left me wanting both to read more from this author, and to help the cause of organ donation.

Gripping, and founded in fact

Review: THE ORGAN BROKER by Stu Strumwasser

THE ORGAN BROKER is a gripping contemporary novel with a solid factual foundation. As the author explains, the shortage of legally available transplants is horrible, and consequently the black market for organs thrives ( and undoubtedly, some illegal brokers are yanking in money because of it--think of the money made during Prohibition in the U.S., but on a grander and global scale).

I really enjoyed this novel and anticipate more from this author. Surprisingly, I empathized with Jack (New York Jack), despite his behavior choices. I think his confidence--even in his strengths, he is less than self-confident, undoubtedly due to his abusive upbringing. I liked him, oddly enough.

Promising author, good book

This is an unusual book in that I found it heavy handed and amateurish in many respects, yet riveting to read. It is definitely a plot driven sort of story without a lot of character development or subtlety, but I was willing to overlook that because I was hooked into the story from early on. I read the Kindle version and there were a number of formatting errors (mostly paragraphs than ran together in dialogue) but I also didn't let that detract from my enjoyment of the story. I thought this was a first time author but have since found out he has an earlier book. The author shows promise. The book is worth reading for story line and theme.
