Lacks depth

Even though René Stauffer's bio on Roger Federer has a somewhat poetic name ("Quest For Perfection") it actually feels more like an oversized news article. There is nothing new in this book. The book rather seems like an aggregator of already accessible information about the tennis champion. The book is mostly made up of tournament scores and quotes from press conferences and interviews. The lack of depth makes Federer feel uninteresting. We learn nothing of his motives or emotions. The author doesn't even try to figure him out. If there is one thing I learned from reading this book, it is that Federer possesses immense control over his image. The book not only implies so, but is also a tangible proof of the matter since it merely scratches the surface of said image. With that said, if you want an easy read and a rather solid overview of Federer's professional career and don't give a damn about his private life, this book is OK.

Was easy reading. Except for a few, skipped past the score details of all the matches. The book rendered a good insight to Roger's early struggles prior to achieving greatness.
