Every girl should know

As a girl Scout Leader and mom I wanted to educate myself more on good old fashioned Etiquette before I preach "ggod manners" to my girls. I am gald I read this book. This book gave me an insight on what it was like to be a woman in the old days in America. It was funny and educational to see what a different perspective we all had. I have to admit some of it made me laugh and some of it was hard to swallow. It was shocking though how the good advise given in this book is still good advise that can be applied today, even though our perspectives are so very different. I want my girls to know the difference between polite and rude and then make an educated choice on how they choose to act. I want to empower them by knowing the difference and then they can act as they please knowing the impact of how they are coming accross, not out of ingnorance. I think many girls today feel that they are "liberated" by not having to act like "ladies", but instead knowing the difference is what will give them power in most situations.

Useful and educational

I have an interest in all things historical, especially as it relates to women. This book is an excellent resource to understand the manners found in books such as "Pride and Prejudice." My girls wanted to know why the wives called their husbands, "Mr. _______." This book explains not only the rule, but the reason behind it.

Although we no longer use these titles, the respect and concern for reputation behind their use is something for us to consider even today in the manner we address other people. For that reason, this book is also a good resource for "thinking material" about our own time and our own manners. With the rise in rudeness that is excused as "honesty," it's time we as a society re-think what constitutes acceptable behavior, kindness and self-control. Books like these give us insight into what our ancestors considered respectable and might help us to recapture some of the beauty of their time.

Old-Fashioned Education

I've always been interested in learning more about etiquette, especially from an old fashioned perspective, so when I downloaded this book I was very excited. I read it while on an airplane to see a friend, was was delighted to learn new things, as well as see things I already knew myself. There's so much to learn!

The information compiled in here is very neat and organized. For those who want to learn more about the ladies of the past (and perhaps fluff up the feathers of the lady in the future), this book will certainly help you!

Daniel Ling has 11 years of experience in innovation and design thinking who has moulded himself to be a “designer in a business suit”- strong in the design thinking process and yet relevant to the financial and business industry. He is an effective human factors designer- in areas of space, product and communication design for end users.

As a design consultant for OCBC to improve customer experience through design, Daniel spearheaded key projects in branch, digital and communication design for the world’s strongest bank. He has facilitated and conducted training to over 200 students / professionals across banking and public sectors.

Through his work, Daniel has been featured in AXIS magazine and Straits Times. He has also received the Champion Award from MCYS for the sterling work on OCBC Sunday Banking. His Experience Design team also won the Asia’s Top Design Practice from Singapore Design Awards in 2014.

I like this book as the book itself is already a well-designed book with interesting pictures and diagrams in a very systematic format. It provides innovative yet practical approach in design thinking which enhances and facilitate business processes and problem-solving. This book provides a nice overview of neonatal physiology and pharmacology. Unfortunately a lot of the information is outdated, ie use of thiopental and uncuffed endotracheal tubes. I had hoped it would provide suggestions for the most up to date evidence-based practice, however that was an unrealistic expectation as studies simply have not been conducted in neonates. FYI some of the figure descriptions do not match up with the actual figures. Overall I'd rate this as "okay." I did learn a few tips that I will attempt in my own practice, such as using sufentanil for intraoperative analgesia and using pressure support ventilation during inhaled induction. Not a bad way to use my academic book fund...

This Thailand Adventure map, which I purchased from Amazon,is very good quality. I'm sure the strong, impervious paper will survive many adventures and remain intact. It has great detail, so it is necessarily large, but folds compactly.

Good detailed map

Bought this map to plan and use on a trip to Thailand this spring, as one I wanted was out of stock. THis map is larger and has more detail, and is a good heavy duty quality that looks to be waterproof, a requirement. The only down side is some of the printing is harder to read for my old eyes, as some of the print colors don't have a high contrast. No problem in a well-lit room.
