Great book but not for beginners

[[VIDEOID:mo2XUT2Y5H0VQE7]]The contents of this book actually come from one of the special 'How to Draw and Paint' issues of Imaginefx magazine titled simply as Manga. It was popular and sold out but now you have the book. There aren't much differences except for the layout since this is a square format book, and there's no disc included.

This is not a starter guide to drawing manga so it's not really for beginners. You'll need basic knowledge on manga drawing, figure drawing essentially, if you want to get most out of the book.

The book covers, as the title suggest, digital painting techniques that are used for creating manga. You need to be able to draw first so that you have something to scan in before you can apply the techniques taught, stuff like adding colours and textures.

The first two tutorials feature quick tips to help make your drawings more manga-like. They are presented in a series of points, that you can sort of use as a checklist of ideas to think about when you're drawing.

The other tutorials are workshops that present a step-by-step look at how the artists create their illustrations. The software used are Photoshop and Painter. Again, you should have some basic knowledge of those two software. That way, you can follow along what they are saying. The commentary is clear and also covers the artistic parts like using colours schemes, creating shadows, or creating some special effects like depth of field blur, glowing effects etc.

It's an informative book where artists freely share their digital tricks and tips. The insight will probably come from discovering what you can do digitally.

Ultimately Disappointing

I guess i got confused by the words "Ultimate Guide to Mastering Digital Painting"
I expected more...i found it to be very light on digital painting techniques, no real in-depth instructions on how to master any of the few techniques, just light overviews.
The cover illustration of this book is very beautiful, it's unfortunate that there is no step by step instructions on how the very talented artist Stanley Lau created such an awe-inspiring masterpiece, the same goes for the other beautiful illustrations in the gallery section of the book, beautiful to look at, but no instructions on how to achieve it.
If you're going to call your book the "Ultimate Guide to Mastering Digital Painting Techniques" you should have better guides and more digital painting techniques than whats presented here, nothing Ultimate about any of it.

MANGA: THE ULTIMATE TIPS & TRICKS IN DIGITAL PAINTING... (now that is a better title for it XD)

This book is more of a TIPS & TRICKS than just a guide. The reason why I called it a T&T is because it has various artist from multiple online sources and most of them from Deviant Art. They all use their preferred software so its not just one software they are talking about so this becomes a problem because what happens if your software you have on your computer does not have the necessary tools you need to accomplish what you want in a drawing. Now there is a pro for this book and that is if you want to learn some necessary techniques than maybe this book maybe your choice.
In conclusion; I feel that this book has some good pointers but in reality I feel that the book is not necessary to have, there are a lot of books or videos out there with ACTUAL guides on using your preferred software of choice for digital art.

This workbook is a great tool for teens!

This is an excellent book for working with teenagers with challenges in their lives. Their are some mature topics-- such as aids and homosexuality issues but all discussed in good taste. If you are working with families as I do, you need to know your family's belief system and run book by parents before introducing to teen--I do that with any new materials I plan to utilize. I think every topic is totally relevant but some parents' religious beliefs or culture may be offended by a few stories but as far as I am concerned this workbook gets a five star rating. Oddly it doesn't have page numbers- though it does have an index that has page number divisions. I'll just add the page numbers by hand-- so no big deal to me! I love it!

About the Author
"Richard Saferstein, Ph.D.," retired in 1991 after serving 21 years as the Chief Forensic Scientist of the New Jersey State Police Laboratory, one of the largest crime laboratories in the United States. He currently acts as a consultant for attorneys and the media in the area of forensic science. During the O. J. Simpson criminal trial, Dr. Saferstein provided extensive commentary on forensic aspects of the case for the "Rivera Live" show, the E! television network, ABC radio, and various radio talk shows. Dr. Saferstein holds degrees from the City College of New York and earned his doctorate degree in chemistry in 1970 from the City University of New York. From 1972 to 1991, he taught an introductory forensic science course in the criminal justice programs at the College of New Jersey and Ocean County College. These teaching experiences played an influential role in Dr. Saferstein's authorship in 1977 of the widely used introductory textbook "Criminalastics: An Introduction to Forensic Science," currently in this eighth edition. Saferstein's basic philosophy in writing Criminalistics is to make forensic science understandable and meaningful to the nonscience reader, while giving the reader an appreciation for the scientific principles that underlie the subject.

Dr. Saferstein currently teaches a course on the role of the expert witness in the courtroom at the law school of Widener University in Wilmington, Delaware. He has authored or co-authored more than 35 technical papers covering a variety of forensic topics. Dr. Saferstein has co-authored "Lab Manual for Criminalistics" (Prentice Hall, 2004) to be used in conjunction with this text. He has also edited the widely usedprofessional reference books "Forensic Science Handbook," Volume I, second edition (Prentice Hall, 2002) and "Forensic Science Handbook," Volumes II and III (Prentice Hall, 1988, 1993). Dr. Saferstein is a member of the American Chemical Society, the American-Academy of Forensic Sciences, the Forensic Science Society of England, the Canadian Society of Forensic Scientists, the International Association for Identification, the Mid-Atlantic Association of Forensic Scientists, the Northeastern Association of Forensic Scientists, the Northwestern Association of Forensic Scientists, and the Society of Forensic Toxicologists.

First Year Forensic Science Degree Text Book!

This was used as a text book for an Australian university and it was incredibly handy! Really helps understand the basic principles behind forensic science! There are multiple case studies that relate to each aspect the book talks about, e.g fingerprinting, physical evidence ETC... Very easy to read and enjoyable! A must have for beginners!

I bought this book as a refresher since it's been so long since I took a forensic course in school. It was comprehensive with topics covering trace evidence, DNA, firearms, fingerprints, etc. While not described in depth, this book provides introductions to these fields and is easily understandable (in my opinion) for someone with an interest in forensics.

Bought this book for a biology class I was taking. It is very interesting with lots of cases to review and make you think. Only con is that I didn't get the "mycrimekit" registration number that should have come with the book. If you are buying this book, you want to make sure you get that number as well so you can go online and access more information.

this is a good resource to gain a beginning knowledge about cell salts 1-27. Pictures are good, however to help gain clarity on facial diagnosis, color is a must and my kindle falls flat on that area. Buy the book instead. I suggest getting Facial Diagnosis of Cell Salt Deficiencies by David R. Card as well as The Biochemic System of Medicine; Comprising of the Theory, Pathological Action, Therapeutic application, Materia Medica and Repertory of Schuessler's Twelve Biochemic Remedies by Dr. George R Carey for far more information, which leads to a greater understanding. There are some discrepancies between what Card's facial diagnosis depicts and Ms. Schoenfelds book states as well as information she gives, is not as in depth as Dr. Carey's book, however, all in all, this is a good book to have in one's library, it should, however, not be your only one

Very thourough

I recommend this book to anyone wishing to use tissue salts. It is a very comprehensive book that includes both the physical and mental aspects for each remedy. I wish there was more examples of facial analysis but I understand that this topic is not the main focus of the book.

Learned and am learning a lot

Very good cross referencing and rounded out ideas on what salts to use for what issues and why. What body parts and organs use what salts for which purposes. Not as much facial diagnosis in example pictures as I was hoping for, but she does write a checklist for each salt for observation of possible deficiencies. Information I wasn't expecting and was glad to see is included as far as radiation, EMF, etc. Also expanded information on salts 13 through 27 that usually are not mentioned in a book about cell salts or tissue salts. At least not that I have run into before. I'm glad I got the Kindle version as it is much easier to do a search and get results than paging through a book or marking a book. Quite nice. She does have formulas for various situations listed quite extensively.
